# Katanagatari episode 3: Tsurugi, the Sword of ThousandAir date: 9 March 2010 ~ Views: 176 ~ Rating: ~ Comments: 0………………….get the dates right
@ rmat1. Dates and time-zones are so screwy to deal with. Like I’ve said before, the poor Russians have to deal with ELEVEN time zones. How do they ever manage? I myself rely on animecalendar.net, they seem to have them most accurate air dates.
its feb. 21
Vi vse GAVNO))
ahh its march already a episode each month really takes a toll on me lol
haha be happy this isn’t Initial D series creators. Initial D if i remember correctly took about 3-6 months just for a 24 minutes episode.
Yeah, Jikan no Eve took almost as long… but that was certainly worth the wait, eh?
haha yeah i guess lol but this anime is like 50 minutes so it’d take at least a month to make it all prep’d you know. it already takes a week for a 24 minute show doubling it to 48 would take two weeks but they have to make it as best as they can so just wait it off peoples.
lol
it says the 8th at 10am-11am -.- newsflash! its the 8th and its 6pm!
and hasnt come out yet*
Whoot finally out just have to wait for subs
girls in the shrine are very cute
WOOT! Indeed
@rmat1: If you want to know the exact time something airs, go to the site barzuk mentioned “animecalendar.net” which tells what time and channel something airs on in Japan and you just need to compensate your time zone to that one and also allow some time for the actual upload to a host server to take place and there is also countdown.mandragon.info, which has running timer count downs from days/hours/minutes and seconds to the exact time each episode airs, again this is by the Japanse time zone to which you will have to adjust your time.
Anyway… GAAAAAAWD, I love this series! ! !
Just looking at the raw, I’m once again impressed how the simple elegance of the character design utilized has freed the project team to devote both more attention to background art AND more fps to the animation, making movements and gestures more natural in appearance. The amount of dialogue and the imagery used is pretty sophisticated, too; this is not a show intended for young people. So, in spite of the fact that it lacks the “mature ratings” and sly ecchi other current series have, it is, IMO, an adult show. Puns and wordplay, with which the Japanese used in this show is rife, require a certain advanced level of experiential acumen, after all.
Yeah, I agree with you on that barzuk. I think that the fluidity in the animation is in itself a work of of art, as well as the scenery and backgrounds, not to mention the Directorial filming style incorporating wonderful panning, close-ups, scene and animation style shifts. I have seen many refer to the character design as unattractive and/or simplistic, but I do not see it that way at all. What I see is a character design, that is so “outside the Box”, in that it is in no way the typical, cookie cutter, mass produced, assembly line style, generic appearance, that most and often myself have become accustomed to seeing. This simplicity, I think only perpetuated what I think is the most magnificent and dynamic character persona presentation along with making the truly fluid motions and accenting scenery vibrant and overwhelmingly visible.
Also, without any doubt, this is intended for a more mature and intellectual crowd. When I first heard the title “Katanagatari” or “Sword Stories” I was expecting, basically, an awful lot of fighting and killing, with a decent story to tie it together (since it was written by Isin (whom has written several top selling Light Novels, including my HUGE fave anime adapted Bakemonogatari). I have come to the conclusion though, that is seriously NOT what this is about, in it’s context. What I think this this story is really about, is the characters themselves, along with their interaction and most importantly, their evolution, progression as well as their final resolutions, while using a phenomenal amount of analogies, metaphors along with relying a great deal on symbolism.
As for the puns and wordplay I think they are exquisitely done in this. That has actually been a very distinct part of the Japanese culture for several hundreds of years and the language itself very easily or conveniently lends itself to that, because there are countless words and phrases that can mean countless different things, depending on just the written representation in Kanji or their accenting or pronunciation and most importantly on their context. What I think makes that wordplay truly enjoyable and an actual art form is is not only the underlying sub textual meanings, but the setup for them as well, with the surrounding scenery and/or character actions, reactions along with their expressions.
As I’ve said, I REALLY do love this series.
Hey CM, it’s good to see you again
Oh, also thanks to barzuk for your lively comments on the site. I really appreciate it.
Well, thank you woolexs, that’s very nice of you say and I am actually always here, except for when you’re under “maintenance”, I just don’t comment as much as I should. You always have my undieing appreciation though, for all your great work here.
@woolexs: I would like to ask you if you could by any chance please find and upload Hoshi Neko Full House (Star Cat Full House). Its a short 4 ep OVA series and I understand if you can’t find it cuz its from the 80s and was only released on VHS, but I read about it and it sounds pretty good.
THNX no matter what.
why does this anime take so long to sub?
(just wondering)
What are you talking about Anon? This just came out today, actually it aired in Japan less than 19 hours ago. It is also a 50 minute episode. Even Bleach, Naruto and One Piece take around 6-8 hours, sometimes more befor the good “official” subs come out. Those have monsterous, established fan bases World wide so somtimes there are even Fast Subs for those in about 2 hours, but those often SUCK.
So again, what do you mean “so long to sub”, when it has not even been a day yet, since it first aired, when this is twice as long as regular anime episodes, also only comes out about once a month and it is only on the 3rd episode of a brand new series, thus not having yet created a huge fan base and the subbing you are asking about is “FAN subbing”, soooooooo WHAT THE FUCK ARE YOU TALKING ABOUT?
Woolex, your words of unwarranted praise are received w/humble gratitude.
Arigato, senpai, arigato gozaimas’. Thank YOU and your noble staff for continuing to have the patience (and forebearance) to run such an open and democratic set of forae, and for continuing to provide this marvelous service… and on a shoe string, too! (I hope the sharks, ambulance chasers, book cookers and marketing wonks who work for the anime studios realize just what you’re contributing to the expansion of their market.) I’ve found the intellectual level of discussion here (due to the presence of such thinkers [eggheads? numbskulls? nincompoops? OC mental defectives? ah, well] as CM, Nakaranoth, Alice 1861, Atomsk007, and several others) to be well in excess of any closed sets of forae elsewhere. Excelsior, old friend! •BANZAI• [Hey, wotz a few trollz wen thayrz so much KNOWLEDGE to be shared?]
when can we watch he subbed version ? ^^

One thousand fearsome, faceless, well-armed mikos. That’s scary, just to begin with… and then there’s the eyes of the the former banditess, Tsuruga Meisai. CREEPY, and a splendidly well done piece of design, because they display clearly the layered complexity of her character. I find her much MUCH scarier than the ninjas or sword owners in former episodes, if merely because she’s so calm. That calm is not peace, however, but really despair. The ninja Kuizame of Sabaku is obviously dangerous, being an insane sociopath, but the bandit chief turned priestess is more perilous because of the depth of her desolation. She disposes of him in an instant, but cannot in the end escape her own destruction which was guaranteed by the tightening noose of her own choices. Genuinely tragic, in the classical sense, and unbearably sad. What a GREAT show. Oooo, YEAH!
This is one of those anime’s that makes me wish I knew Japanese. I have a feeling I’m loosing word meaning through subs.
so im bummed that this show only comes once a month. yup. lame.
i think the next episode will be awsome
Me too, S_R.
He KILLED his FATHER!!
this month’s eps was cool but I’m looking at next month’s even more
